You Probably know that Google uses about 200 rank things in their algorithm...

Parked Domains:
A Google update in December of 2011 diminished search visibility of parked domains.
Affiliate Links:
Affiliate Links themselves probably won't hurt your rankings. But in case you have too many, Google's algorithm will pay closer attention to other quality signals to be sure you're not a "thin affiliate site".
Keyword Prominence:
Having A keyword appear in the very first 100-words of a page's content is apparently a substantial relevancy signal.
Person Editors:
Although Never supported, Google has filed a patent for a system that enables human editors to influence the SERPs.
Penalized WhoIs Owner:
If Google identifies a specific individual as a spammer it is reasonable they'd scrutinize other websites owned by that person.
